Tour Diary: Kerrang Tour and Europe Tour 2008
MONDAY 14TH JANUARYSo our last night of the French dates was probably the craziest. Marsaille is amazing. Kids were jumping on stage again but this time my belt was ripped off and 2 dudes tried to french kiss me.... Is that weird? Lol. The club was small and packed which always makes for the best shows. Although I discovered on stage that in a desperate attempt to keep me at home my lovely cat (the gipper) had a piss in my suitcase. Unconditional love. Today was probably the best day of our lives as we stopped in Milan Italy on our way to Germany. Ill check in after dinner and beverages! Nathan WEDNESDAY 16TH JANUARY In America absynthe is illegal. If you saw the 4 of us last night you'd know exactly why. It was our first time in Munich and although the crowd was relatively small they were amazing. We can't get over going from country to country and language to language having a connection with kids through music. Sounds so cheesy but its true lol. After the show we went to a super cool bar downtown and met the drink that might change us forever. We had some lovely German hosts and after some minor injuries made it back to the bus around 4am. Our bus call was 3am and I think our driver killed Sproket (the merch guy methinks- Ed.). Well before I passed out Sproket was getting screamed at and I haven't seen him all day. Good times lol Nathan THURSDAY 17TH JANUARY Last night was weisbeden? Yeah good times as usual. We're preparing for the Kerrang! Tour which includes re learning our Smashing Pumpkins cover of "Today". So far I'm not sure if we can pull it off lol. But what's ten times more exciting for us is that were working relentlessly on our next record. The back lounge of the bus has become our studio and so far were loving it more than ever. And to make today almost perfect we found a Starbucks in the train station. Tonight is bloody marys and movies night. And for the record were still not gay ha. See you in Berlin tomorrow! Nathan FRIDAY 18TH JANUARY Day off so last night we just kicked it in the parking lot of the venue we played in Weisbaden. You'd think that would be boring however we learned that the venue used to be a slaughterhouse and next to it was an incredibly scary building that served as the incinerator. Refusing to grow up as usual we ran around that thing scaring the shit out of each other for a few hours. And Chizel had discovered that the Germans brilliantly sell jack and cokes by the can which always makes nights like these a bit more fun. Then we watched 'Men At Work'... A classic 80s comedy. Finally made it to Berlin which is one of my favorite cities in the world. Can't wait to play tonight! Oh yeah 'Lost' season 4 premier in 2 weeks!! Somebody better Tivo it for us! Way too many exclamation points toward the end but hey... It is 'Lost' were talking about after all ... Nathan SATURDAY 19TH JANUARY So last night we played to an amazing crowd in Berlin. And as usual after the show they handcuffed us to the bar and forced gallons of wodka (that's German for vodka) down our throats. I broke 3 glasses and danced with a Russian man. What's happening to me? Then I woke up in koln (btw I know ive misspelled every city. I think I even misspelled misspelled lol) and found out our lovely German promo dept decided to gather up some contest winners and hike up 600 steps to the top of the dom cathedral. All the xanax in the world couldn't widen that stairwell. I'm going to go puke and check in later lol Nathan MONDAY 20TH JANUARY I'm starting to forget where we are and where we were the previous night! It has rained for the past 2 weeks so everytime I look out my little prison window it looks relatively similar. Cologne was effin fantastic! Best show in Germany so far. We went to a club afterwards and they played Refused to a full dance floor so that ruled. At about 5am we ended up back by the bus with like 50 people. Last night was Bochum which was super cool. We had a meet and greet before the show and couldn't find Chizel. Sure enough he was in the toilet making it happen. (TMI!!!- Ed) Since we were on a tight schedule we brought the kids into the toilet hah. Chizel was a sport and we passed stuff under the stall and he signed it and passed it back lol. After the show we were back on the bus and it was packed. After a long night we settled in but a weird smell returned and forced a few of us out of our bunks and to the back lounge to sleep. Were still investigating... Nathan WEDNESDAY 23RD JANUARY Aye so we finished up in Hamburg and pretty much had to leave right after to get to London so we could drop off our good friends in Forever Never and pick up Fightstar. They're just as lovely as the last time we toured with them in the States. As we've been on the verge of getting sick and having to hurry so we didn't miss the ferry to Ireland we didn't do too much exciting. Though we did watch 40 Year Old Virgin which I thought was pretty exciting. Anyway i just met Claudio from Coheed and Anthony from Circa Survive and they are awesome people which means this Kerrang Tour is gonna be the shiznasty. Oh and Katie from kerrang will be riding on our bus just to deliver some video clips to you all. I'm sorry in advance. Nathan THURSDAY 24TH JANUARY So Belfast. Sold out and the kids were crazy. This was the first night of the kerrang! Tour and were so effin happy that we get to do this for 3 weeks! Circa survive is amazing as are the rest of the bands and clearly the crowds are going to be out of hand!! I cut my toe open and at some point during the set something hard hit me in the throat ha. But attribute it to the guy that had his middle finger up the whole time yet sang every song. All out of love lol. Fightstar brought a bottle of moonshine on the bus. Bastards. And remember Steve our crazy bus driver? I think he killed Sproket last night. Ill let ya know. Dublin tonight! Nathan SUNDAY 27TH JANUARY if Fightstar doesn't get that moonshine off our bus they just might kill us. I've been trying to behave myself as touring this long can destroy the body and mind and then enter fightstar to ruin the plan entirely lol. But we are having the most fun we've ever had on tour so oh well ha. Southampton is a beautiful party town. As usual the crowds are nuts snd were so grateful. We were able to meet a ton of people at the Atticus signing but we had to leave for soundcheck before the line finished so we kicked it after the show with as many people as possible outside the bus. That got a little crazy and Steve the bus driver blew a gasket. So we had to stay on the bus. Alas we are in Bristol today and it already promises to be another beautiful disaster :] Nathan MONDAY 28TH JANUARY Last night was our first time in Bristol and it was crazy. The crowd was huge and out of control. There was an incident but I'm not allowed to talk about it lol. One result however is that I'm no longer allowed to join the crowd as I love to do. It blows. In fact were not allowed to do much anymore but again I'm not allowed to talk about it. Rest assured these shows are gonna be crazy regardless. Tonight we're in Nottingham and every time weve been here its incredible ! Nathan TUESDAY 29TH JANUARY I'm so exhausted I can't even lift my head. I broke the rules implemented against me already by joining the crowd again. Were getting in more and more trouble by the minute. Fortunately the Kerrang! people kick so much ass that I don't think we'll get kicked off the tour lol. Were in London right now doing a live performance for xfm but I'm pretty shanked so wish us luck! Oh ps nottingham kids are incredible! Nathan WEDNESDAY 30TH JANUARY Oi. We're in Cardiff today and we just finished an acoustic session at Hard Rock Cafe for XFM Wales and it was super fun. Last night we did XFM London and that ruled too. Keeping too busy to party which is probably a good thing lol. Were starting to walk into venues and forget which band we are. So we've been to Cardiff twice- once with The Used and once with Paramore .... Should be off the hinges :] Nathan FRIDAY 1ST FEBRUARY Oh hello there, its Matthew that will be briefing you on the latest on the K! Tour today, as Nathan has fallen ill... He got an infection...in his, well, let's be honest, his bowel. I think it kicked in on stage which was awesome, but its a real drag now. He's been in bed for 3 days and was warned not to play. Of course, that's not an option in Madina Lake so he got up for 25 minutes last night and kicked ass. Thanks everyone for understanding that he couldn't chill with yall after the show. We're in Manchester tonight...sold out, 2700 people. Its gonna be retarded. Thank you all for being so cool to us. Its been such a pleasure and we feel very effin lucky for this. Peace ! WEDNESDAY 6TH FEBRUARY We're in Birmingham today kickin' it downtown and its beautiful. Its our first day off in a while and we needed it especially after Newcastle last night. The crowd was so amazing and were starting to get depressed because the Kerrang tour is approaching the end. Hanging out with the Circa and Fightstar dudes has made this tour so fun. Last night we fired up the upstairs disco lounge after the show and threw down. I can't be sure but I don't think I ever went to sleep lol. Simply forgot. Neither did Chizel, Charlie, Omar, Anthony, Brendon, Matthew and Schprokit to my knowledge. I think its time to go to bed so we can rip up Birmingham tomorrow! Nathan |
