On Fridays she liked to stroll through the park. One such day as she emerged from branches an Auspice descended into her arms. The message in the Auspice read, “They have no hope. They have no soul, if you let them they’ll take yours.” Her first public appearance was at the Arlene Ball the year before. Almost nothing about her before that is known. She was officially reported missing June 24, 1951, the day after the Arlene Ball. No one could remember seeing her during the second half of the ball.
Pandora - A beautiful, vindictive, shallow and vain woman who comes from great wealth. Adalia’s pilot fish. She is described as an illustrious and beautiful blonde with a sharp tongue. Her intentions in her friendship with Adalia are less than honorable.
Since Adalia is the towns’ newest fixation, Pandora attaches herself to Adalia, to keep her name in the headlines. She wasn’t well liked but she was envied. Pandora could not be interrogated by ML police as she was also gone. Her apartment showed a sign of a struggle, as it was unlocked and completely destroyed. We know she would not be taken in by friends nor was she brave enough to face the forest, so her disappearance is as baffling as Adalia’s. Another theory is she rushed by her apartment to throw together a few essentials and fled.
Sheldon – Adalia's boyfriend.
A decent man, popular, but not much substance. He has shallow desires and ambitions for himself. A relative no name resident of Madina Lake. He had no desire of fame. Could not be located after Adalia’s disappearance.
Forrest – He is rumored to be a childhood friend of Adalia. He is a dark and complex character. Met up with Adalia during the Arlene Ball in which he told her: "We can run away from all of this.
Run away from everything you have, from everything you hate, just like we’ve always talked about. Where did you go, Adalia? Why did you run? How did you give in so easily. I’d rather they bury me." Could not be located after Adalia’s disappearance.
Jonathon - The local school teacher, the last true connection to the voice of the youth. Very normal man, adored by the youth and unnoticed by the adult community.
His classes were always the first to fill up, his teaching style was edgy and progressive, and his students valued what he had to say. He connected with them in ways that most of the adults in their lives failed to. It was a significant factor in determining his career choice, as the fact that the secure, loving and family-centered environment in which he was raised had become something of a rarity. He didn’t know why, but of this he was sure: values had shifted and adults were preoccupied with other interests, leaving the kids to raise and fend for themselves.
He has been chosen for something and was told to meet two others in Sapphire Square at 7:00 P.M. He spent his day preparing for a meeting that evening. He knew that he was chosen for a reason, and the idea behind it was something that he believed in. When it was time he threw on his denim blue jeans and a black, hooded sweatshirt, dug out his old hiking boots and headed out towards the town’s center, Sapphire Square. As he expected two others were waiting for him. These three knew nothing about each other and on their journey they do not speak a word to each other. They reach a cave with a canoe waiting for them and a note signed “TFB”:
“Dear citizens of Madina Lake, we thank you for you commitment to this mission. It was not only our words but your blind faith that carried you this far and for that we are grateful. For here, use the canoe to guide us to you.”
Lucille - A fortuneteller, or soothsayer.
She is largely thought of as crazy and is taunted by Pandora at Arlene Ball.
Charles - Ex-boyfriend of Pandora. Although he still anguished about their break up, another woman snatched up his heart. Pandora quickly decided that she was wrong to leave him, but it was too late. Most of the pain leaped from his heart to hers.
