K! Award winners are bringing on the 'good times'
F*cking hell, are you over here again? We can't get rid of you lot at the moment!
Nathan: "I know! One of our favourite places in the world to play is the UK, since the first time we came over with Paramore everyone's been so embracing of us. We've just been so lucky and well received and we'll just keep coming back until you won't let us anymore."
Matthew: "It's because you guys smell so nice! We love it man, you guys treat us so well, we feel so at home and you've got the most enthusiastic, energetic rock fans that we've come across, so we're gonna come back every chance we get."
What's it like being on the road with your brother?
Nathan: "Y'know, we've been really close our entire lives and to have someone to bounce things off of and share with is very beneficial, especially if you're doing something like we're doing. It's a great benefit to have a family member that you've gotten along with forever right there with you, you've got a connection to family and home and everything else, so it's all positive."
Matthew: "I went on vacation by myself once, I went on a cruise - and I don't know why I did it - and I had a blast, but it didn't carry any weight because as soon as it was done, I didn't have anybody to share the memory with. Any time we get a break, we just sit down and talk through what we've gone through together. It's like having a partner in everything."
Have you both tried to score with the same girl?
Nathan: "(laughs) Y'know what, it's this weird thing that if ever one of us is attracted to a girl, automatically the other one is not interested the slightest bit. It's like a pre-emptive self-defence mechanism or something. I think we also probably have slightly different tastes in girls, which helps."
Matthew: "No, as Nathan said, as soon as one of us expresses an interest, it's an automatic shut off switch for the other one. There has been a moment or two where a girl has been interested in him or me and the other one's been more interested in her, so we'll sort of pass her along, unbeknownst to her (laughs)."
When was the last time you made like a tw*t onstage?
Nathan: "Oh man, I do it all the time. There's always water or something spilled on the stage so we go down constantly. A couple of weeks ago, we just started using these new in-ear monitoring systems, so I have like a battery pack on my belt buckle, and I jumped into the crowd and landed right on a girl and my battery pack broke her nose! I felt so terrible!"
Matthew: "I've done a lot of stupid things. One time I fell off the stage, and I'm a short guy and the stage was quite high, and I was trying to get back up and the security guy wasn't helping me so my bass kept banging into the stage and making this atrocious noise. I couldn't get up and it was awkward for over 2 minutes (laughs). And the last time we were in the UK and we were playing with The Used, we had these big confetti balloons and while they were sound-checking I had blown up one of these balloons and had nowhere to put it. So, I had to put it behind the stage, but I had to walk in front of it to get there and I tried to creep past them, and right when I was in front of them the balloon exploded and it rained confetti down on my head for about 30 seconds. And that's how I met The Used (laughs)."
